This elegant table by Mario Villa, the late Nicaraguan-born artist and designer, exemplifies his signature fusion of classical ornamentation with industrial craftsmanship. After relocating to New Orleans, Villa became a prominent figure in the local arts scene, celebrated for his sculptural furniture and expressive ironwork that blurs the line between function and fine art.

This particular table features a minimalist glass top balanced by a visually rich wrought iron base, finished in a dark patina. Underneath the tabletop, swooping iron rods drape gracefully from the corners in a style reminiscent of neoclassical swag motifs—one of Villa’s hallmark decorative gestures. The structural legs are connected by crossbars that converge in a sculptural knot at the center, combining strength with symbolic artistry.

Villa’s work draws from Greco-Roman influences, mythology, and theatrical design, yet always maintains a modern sensibility. This piece embodies his legacy: elegant, expressive, and timeless—a functional object elevated to the level of fine art.
