Designed by Pierre Jeanneret for the High Court of Chandigarh, this large bookcase was made in 1962 for the Capitol Complex, the civic masterwork conceived by Le Corbusier as the symbolic heart of India's first planned city. The piece retains its original institutional stencil, HC/CH/SF.DIV / Rs 37/1962, placing its provenance within the HC/CH/SF.DIV office and confirming its year of manufacture.

Constructed in solid teak throughout. The body is asymmetrical: one full-height open bay on the left, two open shelves of differing heights on the right. Four tapered, outward-splayed legs affixed under the body.

The teak has deepened to a dense, warm patina over sixty years of institutional life. Offered as found, with wear consistent with its history and the integrity of its stencil marking fully intact.
