Chunky Basketweave

Anni Albers spent a career arguing that a weaver has to think structurally, that a textile's pattern belongs to its construction and not to ornament laid over the top. Chunky Basketweave is that idea at full size.

Thick groupings of yarn interlace over and under in both directions, the crisscross of a woven basket at a much larger scale, until the grid itself is the pattern. The depth of it holds shadow, so a solid color moves between light and dark rather than sitting flat. Structural enough to keep a clean, tailored line on a frame.
